And it’s SUPER easy. How easy is it? just follow these 3 steps:

  • Step 1: Read "Things to Consider" before you write

  • Step 2: Read the “Preparing to submit your article”

  • Step 3: Read “How to submit an article” when you’re done.
     

PRESTO! If you’ve been diligent about following the steps, you have a 95% chance of being published in this publication. Wouldn’t that be a feather in your cap?!

And what’s in it for you as the contributor?

Firstly…bragging rights! Being able to say you’ve been published in a professional magazine.

You will also receive a digital version of your wonderfully designed and published article. Great for marketing, training, and promotion.

Most important you get to make a positive impact on male survivor community.

Things to consider before writing for Safe Place Magazine

We thoroughly read, discuss and consider every single one, and the final selections are based on the following criteria:

  1. You must be a current subscriber or advertiser to have an article submitted for consideration. 

  2. Is the article written to the level and quality we and our readers expect from Safe Place?

  3. Does the article adequately address the chosen theme of the issue, or does the article fit the editorial direction of one of our columns? (impact, male survivor perspective, etc. 

  4. Is the article free of self-promotion? Self-promotional articles are not accepted. If we decide to use the article, we will either send it back for editing to remove the promotional copy, or we will do it for you.

  5. If the article is focused on information that helps male survivors on their healing journey?

  6. Is the article different enough from the other articles submitted?

  7. If the article is in interview format, does the person being interviewed has some recognized expertise in the particular field being discussed?

  8. Is there enough space to run the article?

We do not personally reply to every submission. However, we WILL notify you if we choose your article for publication. Articles that cannot be published in one issue due to space or theme considerations will be kept on file for possible publication in a future issue

Preparing to submit your article to Safe Place Magazine

Article Style Requirements.

Please add learning points or take aways for the male survivor reader. Let’s make this a read they can use in their journey toward reclaiming and healing!

  • Feature articles should be 1200-1400 words.

  • Article should not be “advertorial” which is “advertising disguised as editorial.” Another way of saying this is that it cannot be self promotional. Articles that are self-promotional are not accepted. If we decide to use the article, we will either send it back for editing of the removal of the promotional copy or we will do it for you.

  • We expect writers to…

    • review and edit their article for punctuation, spelling, grammar, syntax, continuity and content,

    • double-check their facts and be able to vouch for every phone number, web address and name spelling in a story. For fact checking, please provide a list of sources with contact phone numbers.

  • All illustrations or photographs should be plainly identified, with the top indicated.

  • Photographs published in the magazine are usually obtained through stock agencies or photocopy permissions and rights have been obtained. 

  • Use subheads that can help you organize an article and can facilitate transitions from one idea to another. Use upper and lower case, sentence style, in subheads.

  • Write clearly and concisely. Use simple language; make your point in as few words as possible.

  • Define terms that may not be well known. Avoid jargon and clichés that may confuse readers or send them running for the dictionary. On first mention, spell out abbreviations or acronyms. If in doubt, define. Cite your sources when appropriate. 

  • Submit in  Microsoft Word document. 

How to submit an article

  • The end of your article drop a little bio about yourself and a pic.  This is the place to let the readers of your article know a little bit about yourself.  Please include your name, email address, location (City-State) website or other pertinent information.  (Please make sure we have a phone number to contact you. For our contacting you only.)  Sometimes readers will ask to contact contributors via email.  Please supply an email address that you are comfortable with receiving inquires. 

  • Articles should be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word document by email to: safeplaceformen@gmail.com.  

  • In the subject line type:  Article for Consideration.  Don't forget to add this subject line.  The email filter will send it to a special folder for article consideration.
